Advantages of Palliative Care

Stay Home

Many people want to spend their remaining days at home. Palliative Home Care is one of the best ways to do this. Our services enable people to spend their final days surrounded by loved ones with privacy and respect.

Less Disruption

Receiving Care at Home, where everything is familiar means less disruption than moving into a care or nursing home. Round the clock care means that any changes in condition will be noticed and responded to quickly.

Choice

Palliative Care varies according to your needs. It can begin with modest care delivered with dignity and respect, increasing as time passes. This could mean remaining at home, without going to a hospice or hospital.

Reassurance

We provide valuable reassurance. Focus on each other and what matters, whilst we take care of daily essentials like meal prep and housework. We also provide emotional support and a shoulder to cry on if you need it.

Maintain Routine

Facing terminal illness is already difficult and moving away from home can make it harder. Our clients find Palliative Care at Home helps to maintain some normality and loved ones can visit outside of specific visiting times.

Continuity

Palliative Care at Home can mean continuity of care too with a dedicated team of Carers assigned to clients so they get to know them and their preferences.

Palliative Care at Home is not appropriate for everyone. Each person’s health needs are different and going to a care home, hospital or a hospice may be unavoidable and the best place for someone with acute medical needs. We always work with families and relevant health professionals to make informed decisions each step of the way.

What to expect from Palliative Care at Home

Our Palliative Care at Home service is provided by a fully trained Palliative Care Professional Team. They’ll help you or your loved one with any domestic needs around the home when things become a little too much.

From preparing balanced meals to light household tasks, or even just being a friendly face when you need it most. At Alina Homecare, we make life easier.

Quick Questions

About our Palliative Care service

What is Palliative Care?

Palliative Care at Home is specialist Domiciliary Care designed for people dealing with a life limiting illness. The primary aim of this support is to make you or your loved one feel as comfortable as possible in those final days. This involves managing pain or any symptoms. It can also include psychological and emotional support, such as providing companionship or a friendly face.

Find your local Alina Homecare Team to learn more about how we can help you.

When can Palliative Care start?

Palliative Care can be started as soon as you are ready, not just at the end of life. Whenever you choose our services, we will aim to provide excellent quality care that puts you at ease, makes you more comfortable and preserves your dignity. You can rest assured that you will always be in good hands.

We know the symptoms of serious conditions and terminal illnesses are subject to change at a moment’s notice. We understand this and always endeavour to provide timely, dedicated support whenever you need it. To get started, simply call us if you’d like to discuss the options. We can also support you with Palliative Care at short notice. To get started, find your local Alina Homecare team.

What is the difference between end of life and Palliative Care?

Palliative Care is a type of care available for people with a life limiting, terminal illness. This care can last for months or even years. End of life care is a specific form of Palliative Care you receive when you’re close to the end of life. As with all Palliative Care, end of life care ensures loved ones enjoy the highest quality support in their remaining days, maximising comfort and dignity.

What is the difference between Palliative Care and hospice care?

Palliative Care can begin at any time that you and your loved ones decide. This is different to hospice care, which is usually delivered when it is no longer possible to treat the life limiting illness.

About Palliative Care costs

How much does it cost?

As with all Care at Home services, the cost of Palliative Care varies according to your individual needs. Some people may only wish to receive an hour or two of support whereas others need 24/7 Palliative Care. The best way to price your requirements is to contact your local Team.

How can I fund Palliative Care?

There are many ways to fund care. Learn more by reading our guide to funding Home Care.

How can I arrange care?

To arrange Palliative Care, find your local Team and call today. Our Teams are ready to discuss your options and help with arranging a package of care.

How can I choose between different Palliative Care providers near me?

Choosing a provider for Palliative Care might feel like an intimidating decision. We are passionate about providing excellent quality care and are committed to full transparency so that you make the best decision for you, whether that be Palliative Care at Home, in a hospital or a hospice.

We believe that we stand out from other providers because of our commitment to quality and always putting our clients’ needs first.

What does a Palliative Care home visit involve?

If you’re considering Palliative Care, we recommend arranging a free home visit from your local Team to discuss your care needs.

The reason for an initial home visit is to ensure a Palliative Care plan is tailored specifically to your needs and preferences. We take time to get to know you, understanding your likes and dislikes so we can provide care that’s all about you.

We’ll work hard to find opportunities to promote independence, supporting you or your loved one to do as much as you can. When this isn’t possible, we will be there to help and support as much as needed.

Arranging care for the first time, or switching providers, can be stressful. There are often a lot of questions that need answering, and our local Teams are ready to chat when you need them. To get started, find your local Team.

What Palliative Care services can I receive at home?

The amount and type of Palliative Care you or your loved one needs will vary according to your circumstances, such as your illness, symptoms and preferences. Some conditions can be managed at home but it’s important to note that others need more specialist attention.

For this reason, Palliative Care at Home is not appropriate for everyone. Each person’s health needs are different and going to a hospital or a hospice may be unavoidable and the best place for someone with acute medical needs. We’ll work with you, your loved ones, and relevant health professionals to make informed decisions.

About Alina Homecare

How do you compare to an agency?

Agencies are not regulated and quality cannot be guaranteed. We provide fully regulated services that are inspected by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). We also provide full and exclusive training for our Care Workers, whereas private and agency Carers do not have comprehensive training. In addition to this, our services are also backed up with central support; this means you can count on us even if your Care Worker is sick or needs time off, as we can source a replacement to ensure continuity of care.

How is Palliative Care monitored?

Like all our services, our Palliative Care is regulated by the CQC. The CQC is an independent regulator that inspects our services to ensure our quality standards are maintained. This includes checking that our care is focused on our clients as individuals, as well as that we keep you safe and secure at all times.

In addition to this, we are proud to partner with Birdie. Birdie’s innovative care technology enables us to digitally log and monitor the support we provide. The Birdie Family app., with your consent, also allows full visibility of care at any time for you and your loved ones. It’s a great way of providing added reassurance that you’re receiving the highest quality care.
